Driving to lunch, Sam’s grandson explained to me that he didn’t feel like I was collaborating with him as much as I was with his little sister while we were in the pool. He’s nine.
What a gift, an opportunity to feel what he’s feeling and influence it, an opportunity to reinforce the value of communication, an opportunity to better love him. It can be tough to give a nine-year-old and two five-year-olds as much of my attention as they want in the pool (Sam was in Kentucky), but I wish you could have seen me after lunch!
When somebody is vying for our attention, they’re really vying for love. And we have enough of that to go around.
Let’s have fun with it!
