When this stone heart fell from a shelf 10 feet off the ground, while we were sleeping, it was a wow. And I contemplated the lesson. There must be one, right? Well, weeks later, after putting the heart back together with a bonding agent, it occurred to me that rather than hide the repair seam, I could paint it gold, following the Japanese art form of Kintsugi. Voila!
And I think that WAS the lesson. We have to live with the inevitable cracks of learning, but we don’t have to find shame in them. We are intended to learn the value of breaking … and mending.
May we grow in grace and beauty, strength and resilience, compassion and purity. May we grow into love.
