When we love somebody in spite of who they are, rather than FOR who they are, we don’t really love them. But how do we love people for who they are, with all those little flaws and eccentricities, maybe, all those whopping aggravations? Context.
When we see people in the context of their story, their life, we realize that they did the best they could. We love them for their survival, their tenacity in the face of the odds. We love them for the hope they nurtured, that little grin they never lost. We love them for who they are. And they are not their situation, their bank account, their polish or poise. They are the spirit that endured. They are the untainted love that still shines.
And when we feed that love in our self and others, we participate in an unveiling. We watch love blossom, much the way we watch the sun come up every morning, or the stars sparkle in a dark sky. And we can’t help but love what we see.
Love smiles on you,
