Approval feels good, for sure. But when we have our own, we don’t need anybody else’s. And when we don’t have our own, theirs falls short. There isn’t enough approval from others—no matter how many others—to make us feel good enough … until we have our own approval.
Here’s why. When we are authentic, we’ll know we are good enough. We’ll approve. But as long as we’re not authentic, we’ll feel like a fraud. And approval from others will be approval of our façade, not us.
When we try to win approval by betraying our own truth, we’re so miserable that we become unattractive—to our self and to everybody else—if not immediately, eventually.
Naked is as good as we get. Let’s not cover up what’s sacred with what we hope will win approval.
