Divorce, lesser or greater trauma?
We instinctively want to shield children from trauma, which makes divorce a tough choice … but if your partnership is unhealthy, it also makes staying married a tough choice. You might find yourself trying to pick the lesser of two evils.
My husband and I lean in opposite directions — he toward the trauma of staying together; I toward the trauma of divorce. His parents divorced when he was very young; mine stayed together through thick and thin!
Your situation, of course, is unique, but you’re not alone. Fifty percent of first marriages and 67 percent of second marriages end in divorce. I believe some failing marriages can be saved … and I love to help revive them. Others, sadly, were unwisely entered into to begin with; and holding them together serves no one.
The ideal solution is for us to learn more about ourselves and relationships before committing for life! In the meantime, we have to make the best of what is.
If both partners want to save their marriage, it’s never too late for counseling. And if only one partner has the desire and the other one is willing to participate, there’s still hope.
One of the biggest challenges can be to reverse a decision that’s already been made to divorce.… More
Your chance to bounce higher …
No matter who you are, you feel the ramifications of the pandemic. You probably also feel less complacent.
If you haven’t gotten more creative and motivated yet, you can. You will, once you feel that spark of hope and begin to fan it.
Sometimes it takes things getting worse, even when you think they can’t. Recognizing that they can inspires gratitude for what you had and still have, as well as compassion for others. When I get sick, I find myself more thankful for my health and more empathetic toward those with chronic health issues.
Disaster calls us together — as a family, or a global community. It shifts the focus to what we have in common — and inevitably demonstrates the strength of alliance for mutual benefit.
In our mind’s eye, we put ourselves in our brother’s shoes. We realize that we share the same planet, the same economy, and the same DNA. We realize that roles are simply roles, subject to change. “Be nice to people on your way up because you meet them on your way down,” said Jimmy Durante.
Epic changes — in the home, the workplace and the community — may leave you wondering whether you’re climbing up or down the ladder.… More
What are you thankful for?
I’m thankful for the harvest, for the law of sowing and reaping. We are blessed with good seed to sow, a faithful sun and rain, and whatever magic, or science, makes a seed sprout green through dark soil.
And I’m thankful that no matter how much we evolve, a willing soul will always find a purer love to grow into. There is no lack of freedom, no lack of potential, no lack of passion.
And I’m thankful for a partner who is content to go with the flow, while never content to stop dreaming, believing, and acting on faith. I’m grateful for knowing we were meant to be … and for all the sowing, misguided striving, and learning that led me to him.
And I’m thankful for a god, a creator, a heavenly father, without whom there would be no law of the harvest.
On this Thanksgiving Day, I am one grateful little girl. And I’m thankful that I can be this old and still feel this young.
Happy Thanksgiving to you my dear friends. I’m thankful for YOU. I love you.
God loves you. And his law, summed up in love, provides all the good we can hope for and more than we can fathom.… More
