“Excuse me, I’m here with laundry for Little Miss Pretty Thing,” I said to Mom. Two or three times a week, I open her closet and restock it. But as I was hanging up Mom’s clothes yesterday, it occurred to me that I take very good care of her. I knew that (thank you, God). But in that moment, I was observing practical evidence in her color wheel of pocketed pajamas.
For years, I’ve written about the idea that we can only love somebody else as well as we love ourself. One of my favorite talks is, “Shortcut to Knowing How Well He Will Love You.” And as I hung up Mom’s clothes, it was clear that I loved her AS I loved myself.
Life is way cool. We just keep learning to do it better. And as we do, we are immersed in the evidence of love.
