Somebody asked that I explain the difference between being in love and loving. Maybe being in love is simply wanting to spend the rest of your life and share your bed with somebody you truly love!
And to truly love somebody is to know them to the core and respect them for who they are–not what they have, not what they have done, and not what they can offer you. It is to want their highest good, regardless of how you fit into that. It is to accept them unconditionally, to trust them with the truth, the whole truth. It is to care for them and respond to their needs, from desire, rather than obligation. To love somebody is to trust who they are, even when past performance demonstrates a lack of learning. It is to hold somebody tenderly when they need it, without being afraid to kick them in the butt when they need it. To love somebody is to tune into them on a deep level, to see, and hear, and understand who they are, and who they are still becoming.
